Why Should Christians Display Bible Verses in their Homes?
Share
You may already be wondering if the question even needs to be answered, as the answers seem so obvious at a glance. But perhaps it would do us some good to consider more deeply why it is so important to not only read God’s word on a regular basis to strengthen our faith, but also to embrace His wisdom as a decorative resource to bless and enrich our homes. Let’s get into it.
This is only the second Slice of Scripture blog, so let me catch you up. My name is Chris. I’m a born again Christian living in central Missouri who was recently laid off from my high-paying remote job as a marketing and creative writer for an entertainment tech company.
Without jobs in the traditional sense, my wife Carrie and I have seized the opportunity to start creating businesses dedicated to God’s glory, beginning with Slice of Scripture, where we sell custom engraved wood slice pieces of Bible verse wall art. Creating these pieces allows me to explore and practice my newfound beloved hobby of woodworking while also putting our laser engraving machine to excellent use. My vision with this relatively simple ecommerce company is to establish a regular flow of custom orders that will not only help us earn a modest living, but make way for God’s word to be displayed on the walls of Christian homes throughout the United States.
Before I get into the top reasons that it’s so important to display Bible verses in your own home, let me explain the bits of my own testimony that led to this revelation…
My Story
Less than two years ago, I was saved and delivered from a lifetime of addiction by the power and grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. When I was born again, I left multiple addictions behind forever, but Jesus had only just begun working on me. Carrie was also born again around the same time, and together our eyes were opened to some startling realizations.
Decades of sinful habits away from God had left remnants throughout our home, trinkets and reminders of occult and new age beliefs. We have experienced witchcraft and magic, pagan rituals and a variety of psychedelic drugs among other wicked things. Many of these sins had left physical residue in our possessions, which we didn’t notice until God revealed them to us in the weeks following our conversions. Ultimately, I was convicted by the Holy Spirit to destroy many of these possessions, including a lot of books and the majority of our wall decorations.
When our lives were turned around, the devil put up a fight for what he considered his property. To combat this, we became warriors of prayer. We replaced the missing books with a rapidly growing collection of Bibles and Christian writings and I began filling wall space with God’s holy word, which is the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17). The devil didn’t stand a chance at regaining strongholds in our lives once we were surrounded by God’s own words in our home. Once I fully understood the power of using scripture in this way, the Lord began devising a plan (Proverbs 16:3) to help others achieve the same realization in their own homes. Thus, Slice of Scripture was born.
Why Display Bible Verses?
There are many reasons to embrace Bible verse art for the walls of your home. And with so many Christian artisans and vendors throughout the world employing the latest technologies, there are tons of options to fit your favorite styles and enhance the beauty of your home. For the rest of this blog, let me explore my favorite reasons to display Bible verses in your home.
If these reasons resonate with you, I hope you’ll consider ordering your favorite verse as a special custom art piece for your home in the Slice of Scripture store.
1. Scripture is the Breath of God
Most importantly, the words of the Bible are anointed and protected by God on a level that is difficult to comprehend, even for a faithful believer. The more you study the 66 books of the Bible, the more profound its power becomes in your life. The divinity of its words are self-affirming for the disciplined student.
“For there is nothing covered that will not be revealed, nor hidden that will not be known.”
–Luke 12:2
It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,
But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.
–Proverbs 25:2
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
–2 Timothy 3:16-17
God has given us His timeless words, protecting them through the ages and giving them power through the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. Therefore, scripture should not be relegated only to reading time and Bible study, but used anywhere possible for the glory of God almighty. I believe careful consideration should be placed in the items that we choose to display in our homes, and nothing will benefit us more greatly than God’s own words.
2. Something for Everyone and Every Moment
There are 31,102 verses in the Bible – Of these, it would be impossible to find a single one that will not hold special meaning or revelation for one of God’s children in a specific time and place. His plan is vast and immeasurable by human standards, but His words are constant, always speaking to their readers exactly when and as He intended.
Of course you have your favorite Bible verses – We all do. But have you considered that they’re your favorites for reasons beyond what you can understand? Perhaps God has placed a special verse in your heart because He knows one day you will have it displayed upon a wall in your living room at a crucial time when an old friend in a secret crisis pays you a visit. When they see it, a piece of God’s wonderful plan falls into place and their heart is moved in an unimaginable way, leading them to repent from a terrible sin or perhaps to make a profound decision that will impact the lives of countless people for many generations. The possibilities are endless.
We show faith and trust in God’s plan when we truly embrace the Bible verses that speak to us. We memorize them and recite them as devotions and prayers, we display them on our walls and we share them with others in hopes that they will be carried forth as a blessing. I encourage you to spend time in God’s word, choosing and highlighting those verses that hold special meaning to you and meditating on them as often as you find quiet time with the Lord.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
–Joshua 1:8
I will meditate on Your precepts,
And contemplate Your ways.
I will delight myself in Your statutes;
I will not forget Your word.
–Psalm 119:15-16
3. There are No Better Words
The most exquisite poetry in the world cannot compare to the beauty of God’s own words. They have the power to captivate and uplift the human spirit, saving us from temptation and giving us inspiration in our times of trouble.
If you’re looking for a timeless message of words that is worthy of display on the walls of your home, look no further than the Bible. When I first started making wood slice Bible verse art, I was concerned that it might be difficult to find the right verses to engrave in new pieces. I was very wrong. A new verse longing to be engraved reveals itself within moments of opening the book almost every time. No matter the design or font style I choose, I always admire these pieces once they are complete because of the inherent and indelible beauty of God’s words.
I have chosen to focus primarily on custom Bible art pieces with Slice of Scripture because I’m eager to see what verses are chosen most often. I’m also eager to discover new verses on which God means for me to meditate. As it takes 20-30 minutes in the machine for a typical piece to be engraved (and more time for finishing work), I am afforded plenty of time to consider the meaning of each verse.
As a Christian, the best way to embrace the word art trend is to use Bible verses. They will outshine song lyrics, poetic passages and greeting card quips every time.
With so many great translations of the Bible available, you have the freedom to choose the version that uses words that most perfectly express that passage for you. At Slice of Scripture, we encourage customers to choose their favorite Bible translation for each custom order to ensure that their piece is personalized to their liking.
4. Bless and Protect Your Home
You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
–Psalm 91:5
God’s Word is one of our most powerful tools to protect ourselves and our loved ones against the snares of the devil.
For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
–Hebrews 4:12
When Jesus gave me the grace to turn away from my addictions, the devil wasn’t going away without a fight. He spent several weeks tormenting me through doubts and fears, nightmares and temptations. But the visible presence of the Word of God in my home kept me strong and protected against his schemes, rendering him powerless in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ., who is the Word of God.
His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God.
–Revelation 19:12-13
